I've grown weary of self-immolation

how 'bout you?
Picture

Everything might look OK on the outside.

(This is what we are trained to do)

But inside?

You have been burned.

Lost.

Feel hollow, used up, and empty.

(I did too)

Having better boundaries starts with an orientation of who you are right now, looks for hints at your purpose, and re-orients you towards joy.

Joy is an indicator of what you’re supposed to be doing in this life - it’s the “secret code” used by the Universe to let you know you’re on track.

Did you forget?

(I forgot about this, too).

I got lost aboard someone else's burning, sinking lifeboat. I lost track of  who I was and who I wanted to be.

You might have lost yourself raising children, working too hard against impossible standards, surviving abuse, neglect, and abundant messages that you would never be enough.

(You are enough).

Healing is an action, and you were born to do it.

If you aren’t even sure what would bring you joy anymore: what to eat, where to go on vacation, what to read, who your friends are, why you do the work that you do, whether your family even likes you, then THIS is for you. If you are overwhelmed by overwhelm and feel like everything you do involves someone draining your time, energy, or bank account, please come along.

You could use better boundaries, don’t you agree?

Once you remember, you will do things differently.

(I do).

My next chapter came from my core teaching principles,
and they are the guide for this course.

There is more than one right way to do everything.
It's like music - you can play Beethoven or Bluegrass. My way is not your way, and it isn't supposed to be. There may not be a template for the path you are supposed to walk. Let go of the rules you've been following (consciously and otherwise) and find a new right way. Or two. Or a dozen.

Our bodies do what we teach them to do.
We are creatures of habit, and our bodies have innate wisdom and an inability to lie. Your body is the vessel you're sailing with, so listen early and often and it will not guide you astray.

Yoga is more than the poses.
This deep well of philosophy and teaching has a gymnastic component (see above), but also includes important guidance about how to operate on the battlefield of life. Note: this involves paying attention.

The thing that you're afraid of will keep showing up until it doesn't scare you anymore.
Consider it an invitation to grow rather than an opportunity to shrink. Everything you don't like, everything that scares you, everything you want to box up and toss in the basement gives you valuable information about who you are and what you are here to do.

Once you remember you have a choice, you are no longer a victim.
Find a choice. Unless you are actually in jail, you are participating in your experience of imprisonment.

All bleeding stops eventually
There are no good or bad people, just those willing to do the work. If you do the work, you will find the way through. I promise.
We will:
  • Find Joy
  • Make Meaning
  • Feel Better

We will not:
  • Rehash old stories
  • Burn anything
  • Waste one precious moment

WHY I AM TEACHING THIS
Picture
SHORT ANSWER: People keep asking me to.

LONG ANSWER: I'm good at explaining things.

As a medical anthropologist, I've helped people understand disease conditions from Alzheimer's disease to AIDS, reproductive problems to breastfeeding, and addiction.

As a yoga teacher, I've had to learn how to make sense of deep philosophical teachings.

This one is personal. I was personally miserable, and I cleaned up one area of my life at a time establishing healthy boundaries. I'm not magic, and nothing I'm teaching is magic.

But the way I teach it is ;)

I would like to trust you
